Situated on a peninsula facing the calm waters of the Adriatic Sea and the beautiful ‘Laguna di Marano’with its protected faunal oasis, Lignano offers 8 km of finest ‘golden sand’ beach, hence the name ‘Sabbiadoro’.
This young town, less than fifty years old and a real asset to its area, has grown as a result of its focus on quality services and environmental respect.
The bathing establishments are modern and well-maintained where activities for children, entertainment for adults, swimming schools, sailing, windsurfing, rowing and pedal boat-windsurf-canoe hire are organized.
There are also a variety of theme parks to choose from, such as Aquasplash, Gulliverlandia, Parco Junior, Gommosi, Minigolf, Parco Zoo Punta Verde and Luna Park.
Sporting activities in Lignano include: tennis, five-a-side soccer, horse riding, basketball, volleyball, fishing, fitness training, karate, golf, etc.
Lignano offers four top-level tourist marinas for those passionate about sailing with shopping arcades, restaurant-bars, technical assistance service centres and boat hire even without a licence.
In the evening take a walk along the long and elegant walkways of the town centre or the waterfront or chat away at a bar. You will find fashionable meeting places in the heart of Sabbiadoro and Pineta.
Lignano is certainly unique as a result of its contrasting areas and its history:
SABBIADORO – It all started here. A beautiful town with elegant shopping ways, newly modern designed complexes, the most important tourist marinas, the famous Terrazza a Mare (sun terrace) and the Arena Alpe Adria.
PINETA – Unpretentious. Marcello d’Olivio’s design of spiraling streets amongst pinewoods, branching off from a central point which often becomes the location for musical and cultural events. Small but extremely well maintained bathing establishments. Entertainment for children and teenagers and ample public parking. The historical ‘Pagoda’ by the sea and the Spa centre.
RIVIERA – The youngest and the most requested. Sought after by holiday makers who want the utmost tranquility. Here you will find prominent villas, the green Parco Unicef, the new Marina Uno Harbour, patches of virgin pine forest, the enchanting banks of the River Tagliamento, the wonderful Parco Zoo Punta Verde and the brand new Golf Course.
Some of the most important national and international sporting events are held here.
It is a city in Summer, but a small community in Winter which manages to organize what are now considered well-established events, attracting many visitors throughout the year: La Festa delle Cape, Lignano in Fiore (in bloom), Barcamania (boat mania) and the beautiful Sand Nativity Scene.
Since 1990 we pride ourselves on our Blue Flag award recognizing a good level of tourism in terms of caring for the environment.
